Don’t panic!
Okay, so you have a multi-projector fulldome system, and you want to get shows from us. What do you do? Relax, all is not lost! You can still license our shows; we just have to jump through an extra hoop or two.
Actually, if you have a Digistar system, you’re in luck. Evans & Sutherland has provided us their encoding software ESVideo, so we can make slices for your system (assuming you’re using one of their stock configurations). They have tried to standardize their installations so that one slice/encode will work in any similarly equipped Digistar theater. So we can indeed ship you movie files you can just copy onto your system, then run the play scripts we provide too. You just tell us what system configuration you have; we take care of the rest.
Otherwise, Loch Ness Productions does maintain working relationships with the major vendors whose fulldome systems require proprietary slicing — Sky-Skan, Zeiss, RSA Cosmos primarily. They are all authorized Loch Ness Productions show resellers, and probably have the shows we’ve produced ready to slice for your system already. So, you buy the licenses for the shows you want from us. We will contact your hardware vendor, get a current price for their slicing services, and arrange for them to do the work. We’ll let you know what the additional cost will be, and simply add it onto your bill when we’re ready to ship.
Alternatively, you could also arrange to buy the LNP shows you want directly from them instead of us. We don’t mind — we’ll get paid our percentage from them eventually. The ultimate price they charge you for our shows, and their slicing service, will be between you and them. But at least you’ll be an informed consumer; you will know in advance what the retail prices are, since we publish them here on the Web site.
As always, we welcome your thoughts on the matter. Thanks for reading!
