Mark and Carolyn's Excellent Eclipse Cruise

February 21: Departure

*

Our ship, the m/s Statendam. It would become like a second home over the next 10 days. It's 55,451 tons, 719 feet (219.3 meters) long, 101.6 feet (30.8 meters) wide. One lap around the lower promenade deck was a quarter-mile. 1299 passengers occupied 13 decks serviced by more than 600 crew members and officers. In addition to the usual ship's complement, we carried a number of entertainers, and a Fox film crew from Washington, D.C.

*

Leaving Port Everglades. Another panorama mosaic, made from three individual video frames. Four cruise liners were leaving port that day (see the one on the right?); we were the second out the chute.

*

Heading into open sea.
*

Carolyn, Laurie and Greg Redfern
(our dinner partners and friends).

*

Geoff Chester, Bob and Heidi Haag.
