For two decades, this book has been THE definitive solar system guide, written by experts in the field and edited by the team of J. Kelly Beatty, Carolyn Collins Petersen, and Andy Chaikin. Each chapter has professional insights from scientists working directly on data of each type of solar system object. Beatty, Petersen, and Chaikin worked directly with the authors of each chapter to refine and guide the text, as well as source images and graphics to illustrate the ideas and concepts they discussed. The book is now out of print, but remains very popular on the secondary market. It's well worth having as a reference work.
