When that holiday feeling is in the air, a low brass player's attention is turned to -- yes, you've got it -- TUBA CHRISTMAS! This year Mark joined 30 other hardy low brass players in Ayer, Massachusetts for tuba-dom's annual concert for holiday shoppers. For more information, visit the TubaChristmas website.
The concert was held in Ayer's town center on Sunday, December 22, 2002.

The festivities began with rehearsal at the Ayer Town Hall, led by Tom Reynolds.

Then the group of 30+ tubists of all types made its way down to the Medicine Shoppe and set up in the parking lot. Some might say the proximity of the liquor store is perhaps more appropriate!
|
Tom Reynolds turned and directed the audience in a sing-along for the better-known tunes.
|
About 35-40 townspeople showed up for the concert, along with an unknown number of folks who drove by with their windows down to catch the tuba tunes.

One of the sousaphone players displayed an especially-festive snowman on the bell of his instrument.

A lovely wreath garlanded a baritone bell.
|
If you look closely at the reflections in the bells of these tubas you can see some of the audience members, some of the tubists, and the buildings across the street from the concert venue!

Looks chilly; weather was actually reasonable, maybe 40 degrees F.
